Three Roof Features On Camper Vans

Posted on: 27 February 2023

It's common to spend a lot of time assessing the interior space when you shop for a new camper van, but it's also important to think about the roof of this vehicle. Many camper vans are equipped with features on the roof that can be handy in all sorts of situations. If you visit a local dealership, don't hesitate to ask a salesperson to explain and demonstrate the various roof features that are available. You may even wish to ask for a step stool so that you can check out these features in more detail. Here are three roof features that you'll find on camper vans.

Storage Rack

The interior of a camper van has a fair amount of space that you can use for storage, but there may be certain trips that you need to travel with more than you can fit in the vehicle. A van that is equipped with a rooftop storage rack will come in handy. These racks tend to be fairly simple in design. They consist of several metal bars that make it easy to attach all sorts of things with rope, bungee cords, or other methods. For example, if you have any type of vehicle cargo box, you can easily mount it to the storage rack.

Rooftop Tent

You'll also see some camper vans that have rooftop tents. The tent folds down so that it's very sleek when you're driving, and then takes only a few minutes to open up and be ready for use. It's handy to have a rooftop tent in different situations. While you might plan to primarily sleep inside of the camper van, there may be times when the weather conditions are perfect and you wish to sleep in the tent. In other cases, you might be traveling with a few friends. Rather than all cramming into the back of the van to sleep, some people can use the rooftop tent.

Awning

There are camper vans that have a large awning that is mounted along one side of the roof. When you park, you can open up the awning to provide a source of shelter over the side of the vehicle. Generally, the awning will be positioned on the side of the camper van that has a sliding door, as this will prevent rain from getting into the door when you leave it open. Using the awning can be desirable not only during inclement weather but also when you need shade during hot and sunny conditions. Visit a camper van dealership to check out these roof features.
